Internet Radio: Tapping a Gold Mine

More and more talented entreprenuers, listeners and advertisers are looking to internet radio to fulfill their creative, entertainment and marketing desires.

The advent of the iPhone has brought about the popularity of ‘aps’. Downloadable players that allow just about everyone to listen to internet radio on their cell phones, cars and home stereos (if capable).

For the advertiser, this a gold mine.  The ability to reach thousands of potential customers has never been so affordable. At a fraction of the cost to advertise on terrestrial radio, marketers are finding short commercials and website ads on internet radio stations that sometimes have an average of over 50 thousand listening hours per month. And since this growing phenomenon is still fairly new, the advertising cost is still low and the clutter is often quite minimal.

Arbitron recently began rating internet radio thanks to a new digital rating system known as the Portable People Meter™.  This has made internet radio advertising even more lucrative, researchable and legitimate. This also gives advertisers the ability to market to much more specific demographics than most other mediums.

The benefit for the internet radio broadcaster is that they are moving into the next major medium of entertainment. Whether an internet station plays rock, trance or constant comedy, there is a market for it. And where there is a market, there are advertisers, which will then bring revenue.

When you put it all together, you find that internet radio is quickly becoming the next frontier in digital entertainment. With infinite benefits to the broadcaster, listener and advertiser.
